How long does the average burglar spend in a home?

Burglars spend an average of 8 minutes inside the home they're robbing. They just want to get in, steal what they can, and get out as quickly as possible.

Everyone has a bunch of household cleaners underneath their sink. What burglar is going to go through everyday cleaning supplies looking for something of value? None that we've ever heard of. Unless they're going to clean your home, your cleaning supplies are pretty safe.

The household can diversion safe is made from an everyday item that naturally goes underneath the sink. The bottom of the can safe unscrews to reveal your secret hiding spot. Put what you want to hide inside, screw the bottom back on and place it right under the kitchen sink. You'll be the only one who knows what's really there.

Why Is It Called Black Friday?

Today, My Stealthy Fox is offering a tremendous savings coupon code at www.mystealthyfox.com   $10.00 off any purchase.  Simply enter coupon code 'TOFURKEY' when you are checking out to receive your special discount.

Why are we doing this?  is the Friday close to the day of Thanksgiving which is the beginning of the traditional Christmas shopping season.  The term "Black Friday" originated in Philadelphia in reference to the heavy traffic on that day.

Black Friday is a day to be especially careful when shopping.  The crowds are heavy and this is a prime opportunity for people with bad intentions to carjack, pick-pocket, or try to take your bag (wallet, purse).  Always keep a close eye on people around you and avoid being in 'touching distance' of others when shopping.

Check the HOLIDAY SHOPPING TIPS in this blog section for more safety ideas.

Happy Shopping at My Stealthy Fox.  In appreciation of all our wonderful customers, please take advantage of the coupon code for this Black Friday crowd-free shopping experience.

Your Rural Route Mailbox

How safe is your mail delivered to your rural route mailbox?  My recently widowed mother caught someone helping themselves to her mail.  This same person came by and asked if she would like to have her house pressure washed two days after my dad's funeral.

Knowing that someone is trying to steal your mail is very unsettling.  It is a federal offense; however, you might not know if someone has been in your mailbox.

There is one sure way to know.  My Stealthy Fox sells one of the coolest devices ever!  This inexpensive small device alerts you when the mailbox door is opened.  It is also handy in inclement weather.  There is a part that is inside the mailbox (super easy to install, takes less than one minute) and the other part chimes and flashes a light to let you know the mailbox door has been opened.  I have never seen such a useful and wonderful tool.

Take a look at the Mail Arrival Notification System.  It is far more worth it's price in peace of mind.

Keeping It Safe On Campus

Here are some tips for keeping yourself safe on the college campus -

  1. Keep an eye out for anyone who is hanging out around your home, campus, after school work or your car. College students are much more likely to be stalked.
  2. Check out around your car as you walk up to it. If there is a van parked on one side of your car get in on the other side.
  3. Carry a personal alarm that will draw attention in an emergency and scare away an attacker.
  4. Be aware of people who approach asking for directions or the time of day; keep a polite but safe distance. One ploy that to be wary of is someone asking to use your cell phone to make an emergency call, but there doesn't seem to be any emergency at hand.
  5. Carry pepper spray or mace with you.  (Check the laws in your state to make sure this is legal because some states prohibit the personal use of pepper sprays or mace products.)
  6. If you are confronted with a dangerous situation, cry out for assistance. Yelling "FIRE! FIRE!" instead of "HELP!" will generally bring faster attention. WARNING: Just don't do this in a crowded movie theater, night club or other area where it might cause panic.
  7. If you feel someone is following you, go to the nearest occupied residence or building and ask for assistance.
  8. Never carry large sums of money on you or expose your credit or debit card.

Be safe and be stealthy.     Contact My Stealthy Fox for more information or send e-mail.

Holiday Shopping Safety Tips

We cannot be too safe during the holidays when shopping at local retailers or at a large shopping mall. Statistics show that crime always rises during the holiday shopping season.

Here are some tips to help keep you safe this holiday season:

  1. Stay alert to your surroundings. When you park your vehicle, do not leave things lying on the seats inside to entice an onlooker. Never open your trunk prior to shopping to put items inside. When you return to your vehicle, be aware of anyone that might be too close in proximity to you. Always lock your vehicle and have your key or opening device handy prior to reaching the vehicle.
  2. Do not carry large amounts of cash on you. Keep cash in your front pockets or if you must carry a purse or bag, wear a shoulder bag or messenger bag style that crosses your body. Never set your purse in the shopping cart. This is an easy steal for a thief.
  3. If you must return your cart inside the store, never leave a child unattended in a vehicle. Under NO circumstance should you leave a child unattended in your vehicle.
  4. Shop during daylight hours if possible. If you are shopping at night, shop with other people and carry personal defense.
  5. Avoid crowded areas. Thieves often pick pockets in crowded areas.
  6. Don't wear expensive jewelry or advertise your financial status in public by the things you wear or carry.
  7. Protect your debit and credit cards. It is safer to use your debit card as a credit card when making transactions at a store. Hold your card facing downward not to allow others to take a picture with any device and use your number.
  8. If you are paying and the next person in line proceeds to the checkout area in your personal space, do not complete your transaction until you have asked nicely to make your purchase in private. Some people do not think and step ahead to the checkout area. If you ask for some personal space in a polite manner, most people will comply.
Have a safe and happy holiday season by protecting yourself.
